Elders Celebration

An Elder, is someone that it is an honour and privilege to know. A celebration of an Elder with a ceremony is more than just spending time together. A celebration is an opportunity for family and friends to let them know how they have touched their lives, and how their supportive influence helped with learning to grow, values and life lessons through their stories, their gems of wisdom, their joy, their contributions to life – to family, friends, themselves, and their community.

It is also an opportunity for the elder to speak what they would like about what they have accomplished, and what they would like to bring into their “elder hood”, honouring both the responsibilities and the challenges.

The celebration ceremony could include a recap of their journey – their family tree and their memories of milestones. It could include talking about their hobbies and interests and showcasing what resulted from that. It could acknowledge the wisdom and the lessons they learned over the years and identify some of the choices they made along the way and ways they affected their community.

It is an opportunity to engage some intergenerational relationships or mentoring, and encourage the transfer of knowledge, experience and values.

It is an opportunity to show how much we appreciate them.
